This blog is to showcase the ideas that I come up with for a project that I am working on at VCU

#32 Independent- Learning to Walk

One of the steps that children face towards independence is the ability to learn how to walk.  When they are babies, the most they can do is crawl.  Once they  get a bit older they can stand and walk with some assistance from someone or something.  Finally, once the child has grown, they are able to walk all on their own without any assistance…they are independent.  For this project, I put together a series of pictures showing this evolution to independence (all of the children are wearing jeans but they are not Levi’s so you’ll have to pretend 🙂 ).

#31 Independent- College Bound

College is the epitome of independence.  It’s the first time you can get out of your parent’s house and live on your own.  For this project I wrote a commercial for Levi’s jeans going off to college and the worry and excitement they face on their new adventure.

Opening Shot

An older teenager is packing up their stuff in preparation for going to college (there is some indication that this is what they are doing and that they are going to be a Freshman).

The camera pans over to an open drawer with a pair of Levi’s jeans folded up in it.  Sad, nostalgic music starts playing

The Levi’s are worried about leaving their high school friends and going to college.  They have flashbacks to all the fun times they had together joking in the hallway, talking in class, hanging out at the mall, and the time they were all goofing off and fell their butts/faces.  The teenager picks up the jeans and puts them in the suitcase.

Next shot

The teenager walks into their first college class wearing the Levi’s.  They find a seat and sit down. The Levi’s look over at the jeans in the seat next to them and they “smile” at each other and start bonding as a happy/peppy pop-rock song starts playing

#30 Progressive- Vampire Dress

Since vampires have been around for centuries, they are the perfect symbol to show progressiveness.  For this project I made a collage of vampires throughout the years to show their progression of fashion.  In the 1800’s they wore elegant suits and dresses, in the 20th century they wore a lot of leather, and now, in the 21st century, they have progressed to wearing Levi’s jeans.

#29 Progressive- A Cinderella Story

What is something that all Disney movies have in common?  Progressiveness! Your first thought might be true love, but in pretty much any movie there is a character that grows either emotionally, intellectually, or financially.  For this project I chose Cinderella.  It shows her progress in life, moving from rags to riches to Levi’s!

#28 Progressive- Leave it to Levi’s

One of the things I think about when I think of progressiveness is feminism and how women act and dress differently than they did in the 1950’s.  But what if women still dressed in full A-line skirts and aprons and played the traditional housewife role?  In order for Levi’s to appeal to women, they would need to make dresses and aprons out of denim.  The aprons could have pockets with the logo stitched on them and the dresses could have red cloth on the collar and other places to diminish the amount of denim.

#27 Progressive- Cheerleaders

While I was trying to come up with ideas for progressive I was thinking about what could be progressive and after thinking be progressive for a while, I thought of the classic cheer Be Aggressive but as Be Progressive.  For this post, I got some pics of Levi’s jeans with pom poms in their pockets cheering.

#26 Quixotic- Strip ’em

*This one is going to be a bit on the racy side*

You know those commercials that show the couple making out and desperately trying to remove each others clothes? The most idealistic pair of jeans for them would be ones that have a button of some sort that allow the jeans to fall off Chip and Dale style. The tagline could be: Easy off Levi’s, For when you’re in a rush

#25 Quixotic- So soft!

What would be the most idealistic jeans ever? A pair that is as comfortable as sweatpants. I love jeans and wear them nearly every day but when I just want to kick back and relax, I put on a super comfy pair of sweatpants.  For this post I thought of having a pair of Levi’s jeans with the fluffy lining inside and stretch waistband while still maintaining their shape and making you look good

#24 Quixotic- Shakespeare pants

Probably the most quixotic individual to have ever lived was William Shakespeare. With his plays full of romance, comedy, and intrigue, one would think he was somewhat of a wild character.  For this post, I was thinking, what if Levi’s were around in the 16th century and shaped like the traditional breeches?  Would Shakespeare have worn them? I think so.  I’m not sure what would be more ridiculous, Shakespeare wearing denim pants, or seeing a pair of Levi’s shaped like Elizabethan breeches.

#23 Quixotic- Sonnet

What could be more romantic than writing a sonnet for the one you love? Writing one for a pair of jeans  is a bit much though, adding the ridiculousness to the romance of it all.  For this post I wrote a sonnet in the style of Shakespeare (14 lines in an a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, etc pattern) for a pair of Levi’s. The final rhyming couplet is a throwback to my first post.

Sonnet 524

O, thou art most lovely,

Comfortable as one ought to be,

As steadfast as a friend held dearly,

Always there when need be

Filled with strength

In every fiber of your being

You are of a length

And width most befitting

Worn tried and true

You are the best pair of jeans

Through and through

I’ll take care of you by any means

O, my Levi’s

O, O, my Levi’s
