This blog is to showcase the ideas that I come up with for a project that I am working on at VCU

#22 Quixotic- Levi’s and Juliet

One of the most popular romance stories ever is “Romeo and Juliet.”  But what if Romeo was out of the picture and instead was replaced with Levi’s jeans!  For this post I took the classic balcony scene from Shakespeare’s famed story of star-crossed lovers and inserted a pair of Levi’s into it. #21 Brave- Uncle Sam

When I think of brave I think of the men and women who fight to protect our country.  What comes to my mind when I think of people enlisting are those Army ads that are shown on TV (“Be someone,” “Join the Army and get a free education”) and of course Uncle Sam pointing and say “I want you” with the implied part of being to join the armed services.  But what if that was not what was inferred? For this post I took the Uncle Sam Poster and added that he wants you to buy Levi’s jeans!Proj54Brave4

#20 Brave- Who’s Brave to You?

For this post I made a group of picture of people who I  consider to be brave.  Those who selflessly protect and serve others are at the top of my list.  Whether they are putting their lives on the line for people they don’t even know or want to help others have a better life I consider them to be brave.  Proj54Brave3

#19 Brave- Lions, Tigers, and Levi’s- oh my!

Bravery, Courage, Levi’s.  The concept for this project is similar to that of my previous one, that Levi’s make you brave.  When I was trying to come up with an idea for this project, I started to think of words that are synonymous with brave; the first word that I thought of was courage.  When I think of courage,  I think of the Lion in The Wizard of Oz who wanted courage.  This project shows the Lion being brave while wearing Levi’s.

#18 Brave- First Day of School

I wrote this commercial based on the idea that kids are scared on their first day of school and need some encouragement to feel better.  In this commercial the mom provides some support, but the kid’s Levi’s make him feel more confident and brave enough to face his first day of school and make friends.

First Day of School

A little boy is sitting in his room wearing his pajamas and has a worried look on his face.  His mom walks by and looks in his room and sees that her son is upset.  “What’s wrong, Honey?” she asks as she walks in and kneels down next to him.  “I’m scared of my first day of school.  What if I nobody likes me and doesn’t want to be my friend and the teachers are mean?”  Mom replies, “Don’t be silly, Sweetheart.  You’ll makes lots of friends and I’m sure the teachers will be very nice.  Now, put on your favorite outfit and get ready for school.”

Next scene

The boy and his mom are at the bus stop.  The mom hugs her son and tells him goodbye.  The boy smiles and runs onto the bus (you can see that he is wearing Levi’s jeans).  He looks around the bus trying to decide where to sit.  He sees a boy sitting by himself and goes to sit down next to him.  He introduces himself and the boys start talking and laughing.  By the time the bus gets to school, the boy is walking off the bus talking and joking with three other kids.

End

If you want it broken down into three parts here it is: Beginning- the kid in his room with him and his mom talking; Climax- the boy getting on the bus and seeing that he is wearing Levi’s; Resolution- The boy getting off the bus and seeing that he made friends.

#17 Democratic- Superlatives

My idea for this project stemmed from my previous one with the debate.  The political debate may be think of a debate club at high school which then led me to think of yearbook superlatives.  This project denotes democratic through the votes for superlative and the individuality of the winners.  Proj54democratic5

#16 Democratic- Debate

After several days of struggling to come up with an idea and no success, this idea struck me while I was standing in the kitchen thinking about what I wanted for breakfast.  It is a political debate between three pairs of jeans and Levi’s slogan is that it is the right choice.  Proj54democratic4

#15 Democratic- Collage

I created this collage that ties Levi’s jeans and democracy together.  During some brainstorming I thought about Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA cover and possibly recreating it with someone wearing Levi’s.  After finding a picture of it online I discovered he was already wearing Levi’s!  So I decided to make a collage with that picture as the center and other pictures that represent democracy around it.  I thought the eagle was cool because not only is it a symbol for America but the wings resemble the Levi’s stitching on the pockets.Proj54democratic3

#14 Democratic- Poem

This is a poem that I wrote showing how Levi’s jeans have a democratic concept.  It is about how there are many choices for people to choose what they want and what works for them, like a democracy.

LEVI’S = DEMOCRATIC

The definition of democratic

Is Social Equality,

Egalitarian, Individuality.

Levi’s jeans represent

Social equality

And Individuality;

How?

While everyone is

Created equal,

No one is

Shaped equal

Nor has a desire

To dress in

The same style

As everyone else.

Levi’s jeans

Come in a variety

Of cuts, colors,

Shapes and sizes

To fit the

Individual

Who wears them.

A little stretch,

A lot of stretch,

No stretch at all;

Fitted,

Loose,

Baggy;

Dark,

Light,

Medium wash.

So many choices,

So many combinations,

To find the pair

That is perfect

For You.

#13 Democratic- Speech

When I first found out that the directive for this week was democratic, I did not know how I was supposed to link that to Levi’s.  After some thought, I came up with this idea: to re-write the Gettysburg Address for Levi’s jeans.  It was slightly more difficult than I thought it would be and is much shorter than the original, but the concept is still there.

The Levi Strauss Address

Six score and eighteen years ago, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis brought forth upon this continent a new invention, blue jeans, conceived for durability, and dedicated to the proposition that all men want comfort and quality. Now we are engaged in a great fashion war, testing whether these jeans, or any jeans, so conceived and so designed, can long endure.  Made of strong, comfortable fabric called denim and held in place with quality stitching and tough rivets, these pants created a fashion revolution.  Now we have to make a choice as to which jeans we will buy.  Whether it is Levi’s, Gap, Old Navy, Calvin Klein, American Eagle, or True Religion; skinny, flare, boot cut, low-rise, or high-waist.  When making the decision on which jeans to buy, keep in mind the original, the one and only, Levi’s.  Durability, comfort, traditional, unique, these words characterize what Levi’s jeans stand for, everything that one wants in a pair of jeans.
